v1.1 Minor Upates
This is a quick update to correct some typos and clarify the rules about having to automatically accept diamonds, face cards, and aces without costing glory.
Please let me know if you catch any additional typos--I think I've reached that point where I've read the document so many times I can't see things that need correcting.
Time permitting, I'm going to work on a more significant update to address some of the issues raised in @JonSpencerReviews's comments. This will likely result in the rules exceeding the (admittedly arbitrary) 2-page limit I placed on myself, but so be it.
Changes I'm considering/working on:
- Changing rules for Accepting an event card to make this action a more tempting option at times
- Adjusting the difficulty or at least including guidance on how to adjust the difficulty (e.g., start with fewer fate tokens, not recouping a fate token each morning, etc.)
- Dropping the Ace of Spades end game condition and replacing with a day track (i.e., you have to hold fast against the enemy for a certain number of days to allow time for help to arrive or survivors to escape)
- Adding some end game ratings in "The Record of Years" for remaining Health and Strength similar to what's already included regarding Glory.
Some of these changes won't make much difference if you are focused more on the narrative/role-playing aspect of the game; however, if you are "playing to win" by accumulating Glory, then hopefully these changes will help ramp up the challenge.
Of course, you should also ask yourself--is dying a glorious death the same as dying a good death?
